1. Role Summary

The Identity Risk Analyst owns identity-threat detection: user and entity behavior analytics, OAuth and token risk, and the detection of identity-based attacks. They focus on what happens after authentication: anomalous behavior, privilege escalation, lateral movement, and credential misuse that bypasses preventive controls.

4. Key Responsibilities

4.1 Core Responsibilities (All Grades)

  • Operate and tune user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA) platforms - Monitor for identity-based threats: compromised credentials, token theft, session hijacking, MFA fatigue, OAuth application abuse - Develop and maintain identity-risk detection rules and alerts - Investigate identity-related security events and escalate confirmed compromises to Incident Response - Assess OAuth and API token risk: excessive permissions, unused tokens, suspicious grant patterns - Monitor privileged account usage and detect anomalous privileged behavior - Partner with the Identity Engineer to ensure identity security controls are informed by observed attack patterns - Contribute identity-threat intelligence to the Threat Intelligence Analyst - Support incident response for identity-compromise scenarios

10. Success Profile

An Identity Risk Analyst is successful when identity-related risk is visible, measurable, and actively managed. Key indicators: the identity risk register captures access-related findings from across the organization; user access risk scoring identifies anomalous behavior before it becomes an incident; access certification results are analyzed for risk patterns, not just checked off; SOD violations are identified and remediated before they cause audit findings. The analyst connects identity events to business risk in terms leadership understands.

11. Career Path

11.1 Within-Family Progression

Within JF-RISKOPS, progression follows the Risk Operations level ladder in JF-001 §9.2: L1 Associate Analyst/S1, L2 Analyst/S2, L3 Senior or Lead Analyst/S3, and L4 Principal Analyst/S4. Promotion evidence should show increasing ownership of risk workflows, stronger analytical judgment, documented influence on remediation or risk acceptance decisions, cross-pillar collaboration with Engineering and Governance, and mentoring of less experienced analysts. 11.2 Cross-Family Movement
